Second Chance Stories

Home Magazine Second Chance Stories
Racing is a noble sport that has existed throughout time in every country. And while Thoroughbreds dominate the racing industry in the United States, they have achieved a high ranking status in every other sport as well. Here we honor just a few of the equine athletes who have overcome challenges and/or moved on to greatness in a second career, off the track. In every story, the common denominator is that Thoroughbreds are exceptionally intelligent, versatile, athletic and develop a keen sense of partnership with the person who trains and rides them. Thank you to all who have bred, trained and given a Thoroughbred their start in competitive sports – on the track and off. A sampling of the many success stories we have heard and received follows below. We also invite you to read about The Prodigious Fund, which was initiated at Emerald Downs in 2008. It gives owners the opportunity to make contributions to accredited Thoroughbred rescue, retirement and rehabilitation facilities through a voluntary $1 per start minimum contribution from their horsemen’s bookkeeper accounts.
