The meeting was called to order at 12:13 p.m. via zoom by President Halvorson.
Previous Board Minutes: Minutes from the May 29, 2020, meeting were presented and reviewed. Bultena moved to approve the minutes as presented. Lewin seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.
Finance: Finance forecast is good at the moment, minor repair costs, but overall, the organization is in decent shape.
Northwest Race Series: There were three $3,500 late nomination fees paid to nominate two-year-olds into the NWRS. The Finance committee recommended that an additional $10,000 be added to the Gottstein Futurity in order to raise the purse to $70,000.
Sales: There are currently 123 yearlings and 17 broodmares entered into the sale. The catalog is set to go to the printer and online next week and at that point the link to the Proxibid site will be made public.
At this point there are several contingency plans in place and the committee will decide what needs to be implemented as the sale approaches.
Next sales committee meeting is scheduled for July 10.
Webber is planning to reach out to local horse photographers in order to compose a list of people willing to go to farms and take pictures/videos of sales horses.
Publications: Catalog will go to the printer on July 1, which will get it to buyers a month before sale. As soon as catalog is sent to printer, Sweet will put it on the website along with a link to the Proxibid site. Approximately two weeks after the catalog goes to the printer the magazine will be complete and also sent to the printer.
OLD BUSINESS
WHRC/Emerald Downs update: The monthly racing commission meeting was held last Friday. Emerald Downs may try to expand meet later depending on the horse population and finances. Horse population is between 700-800 currently.
Industry Promotional Video: Lewin has been exchanging emails with Joe Withee and is working on editing ideas to get the video up to standards. Emerald Downs is looking for more backside shots of grooms and trainers doing hands-on activities. The board needs to make sure that the video has Emerald Downs approval.
Goals and Initiatives: Nothing to report.
NEW BUSINESS
Board of Directors nominees: Henry Leong intends to run for the board and sales committee. Webber nominated him for the board of trustees and Hagen seconded the nomination. Incumbents are Jenny Webber, Dana Halvorson, Melodie Bultena and Mary Lou Griffin. Halvorson asked that board members reach out to Sweet with ideas for other nominees. This topic will be revisited at the next board meeting.
Next meeting is scheduled for July 21 at 12 p.m. via Zoom.
It was moved by Bultena and seconded by Israel to adjourn the meeting. Motion was approved and the meeting was adjourned at 1:07 p.m.
